The First Baptist Church youth ministry is about more than just having fun. We strive to be a vital piece of the discipleship process for students who follow Jesus. We invest deeply and are highly visible in our community. We are a church that believes in the family.
We launched our student ministry as an arm to reach out to students and their families, helping them to grow in Christ. For the student, there are several ways to get 'connected' in our student ministry.

Hello, my name is Jay Montgomery and I'm the Youth Minister here at First Baptist Church.
Our church has had a heartbeat for youth ministry for quite some time. Long before I ever came on board as staff. When I arrived in 1996, there was only one youth group consisting of both middle school and high school.
We divided the ministry into middle school and high school youth groups and tried to reach out to students in their schools. Instead of just asking students to come to 'youth group' at church, we came up with a name to give the youth ministry an 'identity' for kids to talk about.
//u-turn was one of many youth group names that we considered. We really thought about its meaning and context and adapted it to our pastor's vision and the church's mission here in our community.
We then sent the concept to Uthstuph, a graphic arts company, and they customized our logo based on our identity. We use the name, logo, concept on just about everything: t-shirts, mailing, facebook, graphics, etc.
We hope that when students from our community hear the name u-turn, they think of a church that follows Christ, a church that loves students, a church that wants to create an environment where connecting to Jesus is not only possible- but probable.
The premise behind the name is //u-turn (youth group)- where it's never too late to change direction.

As a husband and father of two, I am paying more attention now to parents and families, than ever before. In Deuteronomy 6, we see that it is God's desire for parents to be the primary disciplers of children and youth.
My position exists to help partner with parents as a resource, counsel, and friend in this long journey of helping our kids to know and grow in Christ.
For families, we offer a facebook resource page with daily updates. You can follow these updates on your facebook wall by clicking on the "like" button to the right.
We offer a weekly Parent Resource Newsletter (email) that you can subscribe to here. We also offer occasional parent resource workshops.
